Dye Sublimation printing technology leading fashion, fitness, sportswear trend

From 2004-09, dye-sublimation printing technique was nascent and it generated great attention between 2011 and 2015. According to reports, during the first quarter of 2016, 834 million square meters of fabric was printed digitally using this printing technology and this is set to continue to rise and the numbers are expected to become 892 million square meters or more by 2021. With a growth rate of 18.4%, this printing technique has proved to have great potentials and estimated to become a €3 billion industry by 2021.
The major end-use segments that have exploited this technology are household (upholstery, carpets and rugs), garments, technical textiles (automotive, bags, umbrellas, sports equipment and other accessories) and technical and visual communications (signage and displays). Apart from the four segments, garment segment currently contributes to 75% of the market share and this too is expected to rise.

The fashion and clothing industry is itself transforming due to the rising popularity of online shopping and demand for fast-fashion. The change in consumer behavior and the pressure from fashion lovers for garments that help to showcase one's unique personality and sense of style has greatly contributed in the popularity of sublimation clothing. Not only the fashion industry but even the active-wear and sports apparel industries have taken great liking for this novel printing since it provides vast opportunities for customization with practically no design limitations.
Retailers, promotional clothing buyers and sports enthusiasts are always on the lookout for apparel and accessories that are fashion-forward, on-trend while at the same time comfortable and functional. Sublimated clothing provides all that and more. Dye-sublimation apparel features crisp, neat and clear prints and designs and the colors are brighter. The ink is infused with the fabric and does not interfere with the quick drying and breathable properties of the fabric. Even after multiple washes, the garment still retains its youthful vigor. Fashion has recently started interest in this printing technique but sports and fitness clothing as well as uniforms have been exploiting this technology since its arrival.
Sportspersons today enjoy a celebrity-status and that puts an added pressure on their shoulders. They not only have to perform their best but also look good for the cameras! Dye-sublimation makes customization possible and that paves the way for better sports clothing that are made from technical fabrics and designed with the name and number of the players, name of the sponsors, club or team name and such other details.

Bulk production of sublimation clothing has more than doubled in 2016 because it is cost-effective, saves time and makes use of every inch of the garment, if need be. If you were unsure about investing in sublimated apparel, hopefully you won't be anymore!
