Rapid advent of digital printing technology--Dye sublimation
With the rapid advent of digital printing technologies, nowadays, old-fashioned analog printing methods have vanished. Whereas methods such as serigraphy, dye sub, specific wash-off stage, heat- aging, laser machining, embroidery or applique were previously used to color and design the pattern, sublimation printing offers the wide range of applications with ease printing process, smaller quantities, shorter delivery times. Thus, any design on ready made garments, upholstery fabric, promotional items, sportswear products, flag and soft signage is being easily printed. It also features large color gamut and photographic quality.
However, those who want to create new employment opportunities and to gain more profit should handle plenty of key considerations. To let users get maximum benefit and high-quality final products from sublimation printing, we’ve collected all topics from printing machine to RIP programme you’re curious about.
What is sublimation printing?
We can briefly define sublimation printing as a printing method for transferring images onto a substrate. The most distinctive feature of the sublimation printing compared to other analog methods is the printing at true photo quality and it is quite easy to get this photo quality. Fabric, transfer paper, and dye are just three things you need.
The basic working principle of printing is completely based on a process referred to as "sublime". The sublimation is a process of a solid transitioning directly into a gas, without going through the liquid phase. Then, micro-particulate dye solids are found in solid state and it is transferred on coated transfer paper through a special transfer printing machine. Solid particles turn directly into gas under the influence of heat and inks are transferred onto fabric. Heat and press should be applied together using a roll calendar or a special transfer paper. Sublimation only works on polyester garments. Thus, it will not work for fabrics such as 100% cotton. That is to say, sublimation printing is only suitable for polyester-based textiles.
