How is this different from dye sublimation or pigment printing?
Dye sublimation is a printing process which involves transferring dye onto polyester fabric. Transfer paper can also be used to imprint on cotton fabric with a heat press, but can leave the fabric with a stiff coating on the surface.
Pigments, which are not truly dyes, use a binding paste to print on the surface of the fabric, which is then fixed with a heat press. Washing can cause rapid fading, especially with dark shades. Textile printing services that use this process, will either recommend not washing the fabrics, or provide disclaimers that fading will occur with washing.Pigment printing is also typically less expensive, as the fabrics do not need to be pretreated.
