How to Print Canvas Bags
Canvas tote bags are ideal for carrying necessary items at a conference, party or other events. Create
customized tote bags with printed iron-on transfers to advertise your business or give away as favors.
Large factories print directly onto canvas bags, but basic home computer and printer supplies allow you
to create printed canvas bags without all of the big equipment.
Instructions
00001.
1, Find an image for your canvas bags. Search the saved images on your computer's hard drive, create text
in a word processing document or find a public domain images with proper copyright permissions.
2, Edit your image so it is appropriate for your canvas bag. Use photo editing software to expand, shrink
or
crop the image. Adjust the colors so they are bold and easy to see. Use the mirror image option to flip the
image, especially if you are transferring text to your canvas tote bags.
3, Print a photo sample onto plain white paper to ensure the image is the appropriate size for your canvas
bags and the colors are printing accurately on your printer.
4, Edit the image if you have changes you need to make. If the colors seem off, try changing the ink in
your printer. If one color is out or running low, images do not look as they should. Print a second test
image to ensure any edits have perfected the image.
5, Load iron-on transfer paper into your printer in the direction to print on the proper side. For most
top-loading printers, the correct side will be facing you, while bottom-loading printers require paper to be loaded face down.
6, Print your image onto the iron-on transfer paper and allow the ink to completely dry before handling.
Handling too soon will cause smearing. Cut out the image using scissors.
7, Preheat your iron to its hottest setting with no steam. Place your canvas bag onto a firm heat-resistant
surface. Position the heat transfer so that it is face-down on the canvas bag.
8, Put the iron on top of the transfer and push down firmly, holding the iron in place for 15 seconds
before moving to the next section of the transfer.
9, Peel away the paper backing from the canvas bag, reheating any stubborn areas with the iron until the
paper easily peels away.
10, Spray the printed canvas bag with acrylic craft spray to make the design more durable. Allow the
canvas bag to dry overnight prior to use.
